Summary
What are AI guardrails? Tools that ensure responsible, ethical, and secure use of large language models (LLM), in accordance with internal regulations and standards of the organization. For example, they help identify, correct, and remove malicious content, protect confidential data. By performing control tasks, AI guardrails increase the efficiency of workflows and help avoid additional costs (economic, legal). AI guardrails perform four interrelated functions: detecting and highlighting errors; correcting and/or improving AI results; assessing the compliance of the obtained results with internal standards; initiating verification and aggregating results. For the rapid implementation of AI guardrails, McKinsey recommends: (1) defining content quality metrics based on corporate standards and current legislation; (2) using open source libraries and integrating proven applications.
