Summary
SAI Bhutan published a report assessing the effectiveness of climate change adaptation measures in water resources management. The review focused on drinking and irrigation water management systems, as well as on the glacial lake outburst floods early warning system. SAI assessed the preparedness of relevant agencies to effectively respond to the impacts of climate change, as well as measures aimed at addressing climate change-related risks. SAI recommended that the Department of Environment and Climate Change coordinate and support the National Climate Change Committee to strengthen the implementation of the Climate Change Policy. SAI also recommended assessing the current status of the development of the Climate Change Policy Action Plan, including the reasons for any delays. The auditors advised establishing a systematic reporting and follow-up mechanism as well as assigning the Department of Energy and Climate Change a central role in this process. In addition, SAI called on the Department of Water and the Department of Infrastructure Development to strengthen inter-agency collaboration in the planning and implementation of their activities.
