Summary
SAI Peru audited the Jorge Basadre National University and identified a lack of attendance control for professors in the economics and agricultural block as well as at the faculties of environmental engineering and food industries. Furthermore, the audit revealed the absence of libraries, computer centers, and laboratories in the branch campuses of the university. As a result, students are forced to travel on their own to Tacna where the main campus is located in order to carry out practical exercises and to work with bibliographic materials. This creates inequalities in access to education. The auditors also found that in the classrooms where Agricultural Economics, Environmental Engineering and Food Industry Engineering students are studying, furniture is damaged, there are no curtains, and the windows are covered with dark paper. Moreover, auditors noted that multimedia projectors are non-functional, there is no security personnel at the university and the number of cleaning staff is insufficient. SAI recommended that the rector of the Jorge Basadre National University should take measures to ensure the quality of educational services.
